Dok2 Opens Up About Reuniting With Lee Hi and Their Relationship Journey

Argentinian singer Dawnfoundead released the 19th episode of his podcast ‘Homeroom Show’ on his YouTube channel on the 17th. While talking to rapper Dok2 in the podcast, the latter opened up about his life outside Korea, including his relationship with singer Lee Hi. He revealed that he had been away from Korea since late 2018 as he was struggling with mental health issues, among other things. He also talked about how their relationship changed over time and how they finally got back together.

Dok2 said he first met Lee Hi around 2014/2015 thru a mutual acquaintance. “I had been an admirer of hers ever since she debuted and I used to always ask ppl if they know her,” he said. “At the time, I really wanted to bring her to my label [Illionaire], but obviously all that didn’t work out due to my own shit.” But even so, the two stayed close & gradually fell in love. Their relationship hit a bump when Dok2 left for the US to “start fresh.” “Of course, I was also purposely creating space between us,” he admitted. Then there were the travel restrictions that came along with COVID which kept them away from seeing each other for a long time.

According to Dok2, they reconnected after running into each other at a concert in London once the pandemic ended. “We got closer again after we met [at] this concert,” he said. “I think it really helped us reconnect.” He also took time to reflect on how age and life had altered his and Lee Hi’s views. (“I am 36 now…LeeHi is 29 now. We just don’t view relationships like what we used to when we were young anymore,” he said.) Both knew that they needed to take their lives seriously, which meant focusing on making music together while deepening their bond.

Dok2 stressed that “music became an integral part of our bond,” noting that he and the singer now work together under the indie label 808 High Recordings. Their creative partnership bloomed alongside their love life. Fans only recently found out that they’re a couple in March when the two officially went public with their relationship. Right around that time, they also dropped a collab song called “You & Me.” For both artists, the track marked an important turning point as reports suggested they have been building their relationship since late last year — long before the news broke out.

For many fans, getting to hear Dok2 speak out on “Homeroom Show” was well worth the wait. Not only did it give people a peek behind the scenes, it gave some brand new details about what happened when Dok2 left Korea, and what eventually reunited him with Lee Hi. Seeing how they’ve come and gone over the years has been fascinating for fans that have been supporting both artists for years now. Many fans are praising Dok2 for being open and spilling details that have been kept secret for far too long.
