Brave New World Finale Builds Tension as Lim Ji Yeon Returns to Joseon to Save Heo Nam Jun

SBS Friday-Saturday drama ‘Brave New World’ is entering its final chapter and garnering much interest from viewers as Episode 14 will air on June 20, wrapping up the drama and revealing the destiny of main characters Seo-ri, played by Lim Ji Yeon, and Grand Prince Lee Hyun, played by Heo Nam Jun. Released ahead of finale, newly unveiled stills of Episode 14 show the day Seo-ri returns to Joseon selecting the hardest path to save Grand Prince Lee Hyun, which is to travel back to her own era. Viewers are eagerly waiting to find out if Seo-ri and Lee Hyun, two characters who have lived through the eras connected with each other and continued to experience pain and danger together, can finally overcome all challenges and gain peace.

From the preview images we can see that once again Seo-ri is playing the role of court lady Kang Dan-shim. Other images showed again Seo-ri and Lee Hyun fleeing. However in these images Lee Hyun is a totally different character to what we have previously seen. In these images he is holding a sword firmly and is protecting Seo-ri whilst looking around for danger to arise. His expression is very urgent which gives us viewers a better insight into what will be going to happen in the final episode of the drama. For most of the drama Seo-ri and Lee Hyun have encountered many hardships throughout which have been affected by the past and present lives of the two characters. Their latest battle is raising more questions as to whether or not their fate can change.


This week in Episode 13, life threatened to depart Se-gye, played by Heo Nam Jun in a rather dramatic scene for reasons that are somewhat cloudy. Prior to that, in a dramatic scene of her own, the Do-mu-nyeo (Oh Min-ae) warned Seo-ri that she had to return to Joseon in order to save the Grand Prince. Although the Do-mu-nyeo stated that history wouldn’t repeat itself, there would be a small price to pay, Seo-ri did return in time to save Lee Hyun by taking an arrow intended for him. It’s interesting to note that there was a hinting that Seo-ri may not return to the Do-mu-nyoe’s world. The uncertainty only adds to the drama of the story.

Fans are also worried about the three main characters Seo-ri, Lee Hyun and Se-gye in the last episode of the drama. Their fates have been attention-grabbing throughout the drama. It is speculated whether Seo-ri’s sacrifice can bring a change in the story or not and if the drama will have a happy ending for its characters. Attention has been focused on the connection between the past and present since the start of the drama and this remains to be answered in the last episode of the drama as well as the remaining questions of the story. It remains to be seen whether the three characters can overcome their tragic destinies.


Ahead of the finale of ‘Brave New World’, viewers are talking about the ratings for the final episode. Nielsen Korea reported that the 13th episode of the drama earned a nationwide rating of 10.7 percent. This is the highest rating that the drama has achieved to date, and highlights the steadily increasing number of viewers that have been following the show throughout its run. Many are therefore expected to watch the finale in order to find out if the SBS drama will be able to continue its upward trend and achieve a new personal best.
